Whales, Beaches & Coconut Hill
Mirissa is a crescent-shaped bay on Sri Lanka's south coast, known for whale and dolphin watching, beach dining, and a laid-back atmosphere that sits between party-town Hikkaduwa and boutique Galle. Palm-backed sands and a sheltered harbour make it a natural stop on coastal itineraries.
The town grew from a fishing village into a traveller hub without losing its working-boat character — colourfully painted trawlers still launch near the main beach. Accommodation ranges from simple guesthouses on the headland to boutique villas on the hills above.
Two nights allows a whale trip, a beach day, and the short climb to Coconut Hill viewpoint. We coordinate season windows and sea conditions before confirming offshore excursions.
