The Knuckles Mountain Range — named for the knuckle-like silhouette of its peaks when viewed from Kandy — is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary ecological richness, a compact massif of cloud forest, grassland, waterfalls, and hidden valleys that shelters over 100 endemic bird species, 38 endemic amphibians, and a remarkable array of endemic plants found nowhere else on Earth.
